Our early autumn foliage trip from New York City to
the northern woods of Quebec and return. We traveled on the joint Amtrak/Via
"Maple Leaf", Via's unnamed train 68, Via's "Abitibi"
and Amtrak's "Adirondack" trains.

It is about 10:42 PM on Thursday night September 22nd,
as Canadian photographer Gerry Gaugl captures MOUNT VERNON during
Via train 68's stop at the station in Cornwall, Ontario, enroute from
Toronto to Montreal.

Via train 603, The Abitibi, makes its stop at Hervey
Junction. Train 601, The Saguenay, has already departed Hervey Junction
for Jonquiere. The Saguenay and The Abitibi run combined between Montreal
and Hervey Junction, with The Abitibi's equipment at the rear of the
consist.

The consist of The Abitibi was parked in the Canadian
National Railway yard at Senneterre
between Friday night's arrival and Sunday morning's departure.

It is Saturday afternoon in Val d'or, Quebec, a larger
community about an hour from Senneterre.
Luis, our youngest passenger, gets a close look at a moose recently
taken by a local hunter.
After returning home, his report on his international
rail adventure will make him the envy of many of his classmates.
